At least 3,500 people lost their lives in more than 400,000 traffic accidents in 2017 throughout the country.
Throughout Turkiye, 410,367 car accidents took place in 2017 according to data compiled by Interpress General Directorate. 3,530 people reportedly lost their lives in these accidents while 303,663 people injured.
In 2017, 410,367 car accidents took place throughout the country while 320,764 were in residential areas and 89,603 were out of the settlements. 54,886 records in the accident were "side collision", took the first place. This was followed by "crashing into the pedestrian" with 31,171 and "getting out of the way" with 26,677.
Extreme speed caused the most accidents
75,209 of the driver mistakes that cause death or injured traffic accidents mean, "not to adopt the vehicle speed to the conditions required by road, air, and traffic", 25,033 "do not obey the passing priority at intersections, passages and narrow places", 16,295 "did not comply with the general conditions governing maneuvers."
It was Istanbul where 211 people lost their lives in 15,492 accidents in the province where mortality or wounded traffic accidents and most of the loss of life was experienced. In the second place in Ankara, 180 people lost their lives in 12,354 traffic accidents, which means that they were killed or injured. Most of the other provinces that went to the accident and death records were İzmir, Antalya, and Konya respectively.
