393 women who were subjected to violence have died: Interior Minister
In response to a question in parliament, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu announced that 393 women who were subjected to violence in one year and 7 months lost their lives.
The problem of domestic violence and women's murders have been brought to the agenda of the assembly.
Answering a question asked by Niğde Province Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said 393 women who were subjected to violence have lost their lives in Turkiye since the period of last year and the first seven months of this year.
In 2017, 133,809 women were subjected to domestic violence while 96,417 women shared the same fate in the first 7 months of 2018, said the Minster.
Minister Soylu added that 393 women have lost their lives as a result of violence in 2017 and the first 7 months of 2018.
"Persons exposed to violence may apply to the 'Centers for prevention and monitoring of violence against women', which established with the aim of preventing violence," Soylu said.
