41 percent of Muslims in Nepal live on breadline
Nepal, where half of the country lives on the edge of hunger, 41 percent of Muslims living on the breadline said IHH Istanbul Women's Branch President Fatma Turk indicating that Nepal is expecting a financial and moral aid.
IHH Istanbul women's head Fatma Turk told about the troubles experienced by Nepalese that has a population of 30 million and almost half of the country lives on the edge of hunger.
Muslims living in Nepal, which one of the poorest countries in the world, are expecting financially and spiritually help to reach out to them.
The Muslims of Nepal, who were excluded by their relatives and environment after becoming Muslims, reminds of what happened during the Meccan period, the first place where Islam came into existence.
IHH Istanbul women's Branch President Fatma Türk, who wanted to see their work in place by going to Nepal with a team of 6 people, told ILKHA about the troubles of Muslims in the region.
Turk stated that they have operated in the region since 2008, said: "Nepal is a place known for religious tourism, but we have actually seen that Nepal is one of the poorest regions in the world."
As part of their work, she went to 15 Asian countries, Turk expressed that Nepal is the poorest country in the region after Bangladesh. "Nepal's population is about 30 million. 81 percent of the population is Hindu, 9 percent Buddhist, and around 4.5 percent are Muslim."
"What affected us in Nepal was the economic situation. Half the country lives on the edge of starvation. 41 percent of Muslims live on the breadline."
"We didn't see any municipal service in Nepal's capital. The roads are too bad. There is almost no paved road, only seen in the capital Kathmandu. We can say that the country is severely victimized and the Muslims are the most in need."
The team, who went to help after the earthquake in Nepal in 2008, Turk said they had started work after meeting the Muslims there. "Muslims in Nepal, like Muslims all over the world, have great expectations from Turkiye."
