Professor of Islamic History of Science who devoted his life to the history of Islamic science and lost his life at the age of 94, Dr. Fuat Sezgin was brought to Fatih Mosque on his last respect. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended the funeral and made a speech.

Following the funeral prayer, in Fatih Mosque Prof. Dr. Sezgin's wife, Ursula and daughter Hilal Sezgin accepted the condolences. President Erdoğan also conveyed his condolences to Sezgin's family.

Director of Religious Affairs Dr. Ali Erbaş, who performed the funeral prayer, said that he [Dr. Fuat Sezgin] had devoted his 94 years life for the knowledge, wrote some great works, and tried to day and night to illuminate the way of humankind.

I have really seen how determined he was in the field of science: President Erdogan

Speaking at the funeral ceremony, President Erdoğan said that he had known Fuat Sezgin as a determined person in the field of science and that he witnessed his patriotism.

Stating that officials of Turkiye have carried out efforts to bring back original copies of certain books of Fuat Sezgin from abroad, Erdoğan said that they have interviews with him for that, and the museum in the  Gülhane Park was established on his request.

Emphasizing that Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin wrote up many works on the history of science, Erdoğan stated that a part of his published work had been included in the Presidential Library.
