Algerian President Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika will resign before April 28, when his office expires.

According to the official statement made by the Presidency, a decision was taken in order to "ensure the continuity of the functioning of state institutions in the transition period".

The day before, Bouteflika announced the new cabinet headed by former Interior Minister Nureddin Bedevi.

Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika, who has been president in Algeria for 20 years, withdrew his candidacy for the fifth term on public protests but did not resign.

Bouteflika's withdrawal of her candidacy was not enough to end the protests in the country.

The fact that 82-year-old Abdul-Aziz Bouteflika, who came to power in Algeria in 1999 and served for 4 terms, was once again nominated despite serious health problems has been causing protests in the country.
