After 5,502 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 1,200,465 in the country.

There are at least 5,212 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 951,860 patients have been discharged from hospital after being cured.

So far, more than 7,407,400 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 1,766,356 with 80,790,407 cases and more than 57,000,789 recoveries.
