Coronavirus outbreak declares as serious and imminent threat to public health in the UK

In a written statement, the Department of Health and Social Care said on Monday that eight patients in England have tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the statement, based on the World Health Organization’s declaration that this is a public health emergency of international concern, the UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the public from low to moderate.

This permits the government to plan for all eventualities. The risk to individuals remains low.

On February 6, the third case of coronavirus was confirmed in the UK, with the patient having visited Singapore

As of 10 February, a total of 1,114 people have been tested, of which 1,106 were confirmed negative and 8 positive.

It added that they have been working in close collaboration with international colleagues and the World Health Organization to monitor the situation in China and around the world.
