Death sentences of 36 people send to the mufti in Egypt
The file of 36 persons who were arrested after the attack on 3 churches in Egypt and whose sentenced to be executed, were sent to the mufti for consultation.
In the Egyptian press, the file of 36 persons, who were tried on behalf of the so-called "bombing of the churches" and whose decision was taken, was sent to the mufti for consideration.
According to the Court's accusation, the accused are held responsible for the bombing of three churches and the killing of some 70 people at different times.
Some of the defendants are also accused of attacking a checkpoint in Egypt's West Desert where at least eight police officers were killed in 2017.
The hearing was adjourned to May 15 so that a decision can be made on all the defendants in the case file in the court of Alexandria, where a total of 48 people have been tried.
Human rights observers point out that some innocent people have been arrested after the authorities could not catch the real perpetrators.
According to Egyptian legislation, the executions files are referred to the state mufti before they are linked. After consulting Müfti's opinion for consultation, the court makes its final decision. Even if the mufti does not approve the decision of the court, the sentence can be executed.
