Death toll from Kabul airport explosions rises to 103
At least 103 people, including at least 62 Afghan civilians, 28 Taliban soldiers, and 13 U.S. service members, were killed in explosions at Kabul airport.
A suicide bombing occurred near Abbey Gate at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul during the evacuation of the citizens of Western countries and their allies from Afghanistan.
Shortly thereafter, a second bombing occurred several dozen meters away.
At least 200 more people were injured, including 18 US military personnel and more Taliban members.
The US deaths were the first US service deaths in Afghanistan since February 2020 and were the largest single loss of life of US military personnel since the 2011 Afghanistan Boeing Chinook shootdown.
