40 people were killed and about 2 thousand were injured in the protests in different cities, mainly Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.

The death toll is rising in demonstrations held in Iraq to protest unemployment, corruption and lack of public services.

At least 40 people were killed during the anti-government protests that turned violent in Iraq.

Two of those killed were reportedly hit by tear gas cylinders fired by security forces in the capital Baghdad.

Half of the victims were killed trying to enter militia groups and government offices.

Earlier this month, similar protests were brutally suppressed by security forces, killing about 150 people.
