People do reportedly not take the injured to state hospitals for fear of arrest, so the death toll could rise.
Iraq has been the scene of anti-government demonstrations since October 1, protesting against "unemployment, corruption, and lack of public service."
The curfew was lifted in Baghdad, as well as in the cities of Zikar (Nasiriyya), Meysan (Amara) and Babylon (Hile) as of Saturday morning.
