Dutch bans burqa in public places

Dutch senators have signed a scandal bill approved to ban the burqa from some public places including schools and hospitals.

The bill proposes a legal ban on wearing clothing that completely covers the face, or only shows the eyes, in educational institutions, on public transport, in government institutions and hospitals.

The lower house of the parliament had a law enacting a comprehensive waving ban 2 years ago, but the bill was not approved.

The new law ban covering the whole face (including motorcycle helmets) in all public buildings, but the streets are excluded from the scope of the ban.

Dutch approval follows similar bans imposed in Austria, Belgium, France, and Germany and comes amid rising tension in Europe with the Muslim population.
