EU to maintain financial channels with Iran

The EU, Germany, Britain, and France in a joint statement that they deeply regret the further re-imposition of sanctions by the US and have committed to work on the preservation and maintenance of effective financial channels with Iran.

The European Union [EU], Germany, France and the United Kingdom made a joint statement about the US re-impositions of sanctions on Iran, which will come into force on November 5.

EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and British Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunter signed a written statement that is said, "We deeply regret the further re-imposition of sanctions by the United States, due to the latter’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA)."

The parties highlighted the importance of the Iranian nuclear agreement, which the United States withdrew. It was noted that the agreement was the basis for "global nuclear weapons clearance." At the same time, it was noted that it was the key to the security of the Europe region and the entire world.

The EU and countries pointed out that their aim was to "protect European economic operators engaged in legitimate business with Iran, in accordance with EU law and with UN Security Council resolution 2231."
