External reactions to Olive Branch Operation

Some states reacting to the Operation of the Olive Branch, have taken their agenda to move the operation to the UN General Assembly.

The Olive Branch Operation launched by Turkiye, on January 20, 2018, against PYD/YPG continues. Some states reacting to the situation have taken their agenda in the UN General Assembly to finalize the operation.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash stated that they see the Afrin operation as a threat to the security of the Arabs in his social media account.

RUSSIA

"Unilateral U.S. actions in Syria had infuriated Turkiye," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assessing the operation. "Many political experts ask why we worried and says: Let the United States, infuriate Iran or Turkiye with unilateral actions in Syria as countries deal disability, to prove its destructive role in foreign affairs."

Russia will demand in the United Nations that Turkiye halt its military operation in Afrin, said the first deputy chairman of the federation council committee on defense and security Franz Klintsevich. Added that they are monitoring the operation anxiously and that it should be stopped urgently.  

Frantsa Klintseviç said in a statement, "We will demand at the UN for the termination of the 'Olive Branch Operation' launched by Turkiye in connection of form an armed conflict in Syrian territory," Franz Klintsevich added.

IRAN

Another reaction to the Olive Branch Operation launched by Turkish Army came from the Iranian Foreign Ministry. "It support terror," said in the statement for Afrin operation, and call made for the termination of the operation urgently.

Commenting on the issue, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Behram Kasımi claimed that the operation could increase the "terrorist activities" in the region and that this operation should not only "stop terrorism"  "could strengthen the hand of the terrorists in the region," and called for the termination of the operation.

SYRIA

Syrian Regime President Bashar Assad argued that the Olive Branch Operation is "based on Ankara's policy of supporting terrorists".

FRANCE

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, who urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to hold an emergency meeting for Afrin, said the operation should end humanitarian assistance should be provided to the region in his social media account.

NATO

NATO, which issued a statement regarding the operation, emphasized that Turkiye is in an unstable region and clearly suffer from terror, pointed out Turkiye need to act restrained and proportionate in its self-defense right.

USA

Joseph Votel, the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), said in his statement about the operation that the Operation could disperse its struggle against the Daesh, demanded a quick solution for the end of hostilities.

“We recognize Turkiye’s security concerns about the PKK, a US-designated foreign terrorist organization,” Adrian Rankine-Galloway, the Pentagon’s spokesman said in a statement.

EGYPT

Evaluating Turkiye's operations on Afrin, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues a statement.

The operation was evaluated as undermining efforts to the political solution in Syria and violating existing political decisions.

Condemning Turkiye's Afrin operation, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described Turkiye's operation as an "attack against Syria's sovereignty"

Barzani's Afrin statement

Masoud Barzani stated that war and violence cannot solve the problems, which will make problems bigger, in the evaluation of Afrin operation launched by Turkish Army.

"With war and violence, the problems will deepen and grow, and we hope that the attacks against Afrin will be terminated as soon as possible," Barzani added.
