Floods in Sudan kills 23 people

At least 23 people lost their lives in the flood broke out after torrential rainfall in Sudan.

At least 23 people have lost their lives due to the heavy rains that have caused the flood in Sudan's capital, Khartoum.

Torrential rainfall in the capital Khartoum and in some towns paralyzed the life in Sudan. The flood reportedly caused material damage in the affected areas.

Khartoum witnessed heavy rainfall lasting four hours on Wednesday morning. Electricity outage experienced in the city while most of the neighborhoods as the streets filled with water. In addition, the street where the ministry buildings are located has flooded.

Some 23 people have lost their lives due to the rains which have been effective for the last 3 weeks, 61 people were injured, more than 8,900 families were displaced.

The rainfall affected the lives of more than 45,000 people said Sudanese Red Crescent and caused great damage to the infrastructure they added.

Authorities warn that more rainfall is expected to have in other regions in the coming days in Sudan.

Seasonal rainfall in Sudan usually lasts from June to November. Due to the rains, the Nile River and its side branches are often flooding.
