Health of hundreds of thousands of children is threatened in Libya

UNICEF has reported that the health of at least 2 million children in Libya is threatened.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that the health of at least 2 million Libyan children is threatened, stating that "more than half a million children in Libya need humanitarian assistance".

Abdurrahman Gandur, a UNICEF representative in Libya, said that at least 2 million people, including 600 children, were seriously experiencing water and food problems in Tripoli and other cities.

"More than 550 children in the country need humanitarian aid due to ongoing conflicts, political instability, and economic downturn," said Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF's the Middle East and North Africa Regional Director, after a visit to Libya a month ago, in a written statement.

For the Libyan children, Cappelaere emphasized the need for a political solution as soon as possible in the country. "Due to the violence in some regions, the families had to leave their homes. There are more than 80 thousand asylum seekers. These children are exposed to exploitation.”
