HÜDA PAR Chairman Yapıcıoğlu: It is necessary to find radical solutions to the problems of refugees

Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, Chairman of HÜDA PAR, released a statement on the occasion of "June 20 World Refugee Day".

Underlining that the world is becoming more and more insecure in terms of the right to life, which is the most basic human right, Yapıcıoğlu said: “The occupation and pillage policy of the anti-human colonialist imperialists causes the death of hundreds of thousands of people every year and the fact that millions of people whose lands are exploited and occupied have to leave their homes. The misery and massacres caused by persecution, occupation, and plunder are increasing the refugee problem every day. World countries and international human rights organizations need to focus on this problem and produce radical solutions.”

Stating that according to the "Global Trends 2020 Report" of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of people fleeing wars, violence, and persecution exceeded 82 million, Yapıcıoğlu said: “This number was 79.5 million at the end of 2019. Countries that are struggling with the spiral of violence such as Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Myanmar are the leading countries that give the most asylum seekers. UNHCR estimates show that around one million children were born as refugees between 2018 and 2020. The report also reveals that in 2020, as the Covid-19 epidemic peaked in the world, more than 160 countries closed their borders and 99 states made no exceptions for people in need of protection.”

"The war, oppression, and massacres in the Islamic geography have turned into a human tragedy"

Drawing attention to the events in the Islamic geography, Yapıcıoğlu said: “The exploitation and occupation strategies of global imperialism and its local collaborators, and the wars, oppression, and massacres that have been subjected to the Islamic geography, in particular, have turned into a human tragedy. The oppression faced by people in Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen, East Turkestan, Arakan, and many other places leads those who find the opportunity to migrate to different countries. Today, Turkey has become the world's largest refugee-hosting country. As members of a civilization that acts with the principle of 'He who sleeps full when his neighbor is hungry, is not one of us', we should give the necessary support to our brothers and sisters who took refuge from different parts of our geography, and we should strive to solve their basic problems such as livelihood, education, and health until the conditions for them to return to their homes safely.”

“Countries hosting refugees are struggling economically”

Stating that social and economic support should be provided to the countries hosting the refugees, Yapıcıoğlu said: “The fact that the migration wave is mostly towards low and middle-income countries aggravates the living conditions of the refugees and puts the countries hosting the refugees economically under pressure. By establishing an international fund, economic and social support should be provided to countries hosting refugees until their safe return. Even when it is thought of as benefit-oriented, oppression and exploitation are not in anyone's interest. Global cooperation is essential to eliminate the growing wave of migration and the causes of 'escape'. In this direction, the causes of migration should be examined and studies should be carried out to end the violence and economic depression, which are the biggest causes of migration."

Yapıcıoğlu finally said: "If the blood and tears are not relieved, the peace and security of the people who apparently live in prosperity and peace in their own countries will not be guaranteed. The targeting of civilians, even in war, should not be left unresponsive, attacks on civilian areas should be considered as war crimes and should be seriously investigated and punished quickly.”
