Hundreds of thousands of young addicts social media in Germany
A study published in Germany revealed that hundreds of thousands of young people aged between 12 and 17 years are addicted to social media.
According to a survey in Germany, hundreds of thousands of children and young people spend about two and a half hours a day on social media applications on average.
According to the survey, young girls spend just over three hours a day on social media while young men spend two and a half hours on social media.
Many girls have been talking to social media from morning until evening, sharing and liking other shares said Health Insurance Institutions DAK President Andreas Storm said and added that the results of the study were worrying.
Storm pointed out that the relationship between social media addiction and depression is scary, adding that addicted young people are more inclined to the depression.
One-third of the young people surveyed use social media to fill in the gap they live, while the rate is higher among young girls.
Almost a quarter of the young people do not sleep enough due to the time they spend in the social media. According to the survey, one of the fourth of young people is arguing with their parents about the social media.
According to the research, if a young person is constantly considering messaging applications in social media, including when he or she is studying, then he/she is considered as an addict. If a teen is angry, restless, and sad when he/she is away from the smartphone or other devices that can be connected to social media, then that is also a symptom of being addicted. Scientists, who do research explain the term "losing control" as "the fact that young people cannot limit themselves when they are in social media".
