Immigrant boat sinks off Izmir's coast: 8 dead 25 missing

At least 8 immigrant drowned after a boat carrying immigrants sank off Izmir's Karaburun coast.

At least 8 immigrants, who were trying to cross over Aegean sea, were lost their lives after the boat sank off Karaburun coast, district of Turkiye's Izmir said Turkish Coast Guard Command.

The Command reported that one person survives the accident, while the search continues for missing 25 people.

The Command reported that an Iraqi nationality woman, who was wearing life-west and all her dress was wet applied Karaburun District Gendarme Command in Izmir.

According to the statements given by the survived person, the boat was carrying 35 people, and that the boat was begun sinking shortly after sailed on October 9, 2018, at 23.54. The Iraqi woman survived by reaching Kuyucak Beach said the command and added that search continues for other missing immigrants.

"Based on the statement in question, search and rescue activities were initiated. Bodies of 6 irregular migrants found on land, 2 other irregular migrants found in the sea," said Turkish Coast Guard Command, added, "Search and rescue activities are still being carried out in order to find at least 25 irregular migrants who are deemed lost."
