"We are saying enough in the 7th year of the Syrian war," said Sönmez. "We, as women from many countries of the world, came together for the freedom of Syrian women who were held illegally, subjected to sexual assault and torture. A world woman from different countries, different professions and cultures brought together a solidarity from İstanbul to Hatay with the Conscientious Convoy. As we traveled, we became crowded. Our voice echoed the world. Everyone asked, 'What made you to take the road?' It is our uprising against the cruelty imposed on our sisters and children."
Sönmez underlined that the Syrian war has no morality or just anymore, continued to say:
"In the Syrian war, rape is used as a weapon"
"We are people who want peace all over the world and believe that peace is the best for humanity. But we see that women are not enough to prevent wars. Yet we are calling from here. There is no law or morality left in the war anymore. In the Syrian war, raping women is used as a weapon. We are ashamed of our humanity. Every child who killed by chemical weapons and every woman who is held in prison make use to lose more hope of the future of humanity. With each passing day, we discover more brutal torture methods and race the shortest cheapest massacre of weapons. We are afraid, we will lose our humanity with our future."
"Release our Syrian sisters"
"Those who think of winning a victory by persecuting women and capturing and torturing children cannot build anything but blood and tears from misery. The Conscience Convoy has set off with great love and compassion, so that all women, regardless of language, belief, race, are protected. We call from here. As women, hear our silent scream and please respond. Now, stop using rape as a weapon of war. Stop the brutal torture of these women right now. Release all our Syrian sisters urgently. Let them go back to their homes, let them have their families. Let us go back to our homes with more hope of life," said Sönmez as her last words.
