After 2,116 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 271,606 in the country.

There are at least 3,529 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 235,300 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far, more than 2,123,518 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 600,039 with 14,215,828 cases and more than, 8,488,484 recoveries.
