Iran's death toll from coronavirus rises to 16,343
Iran has reported 196 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 16,343, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Wednesday.
After 2,636 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 298,909 in the country.
There are at least 4,027 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, 259,116 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
So far, more than, 2,405,862 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.
According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 664,226 with 16,446,326 cases and more than, 10,487,586 recoveries.
