Justice expectation of oppressed have been postponed
Justice expectation of the oppressed and the victims has been delayed continuously said the Initiative for Victim Families in the visit paid to Fatma Kalkan, whose grandson has been imprisoned for many years because of his Islamic sensitivities.
The life story of Ramazan Kalkan is heartbreaking, who did not accept the oppression of organizations such as JITEM, PKK, and FETO against Muslim people during the dark period of Turkiye. Kalkan was arrested, experienced any method of tortures and locked behind barred doors while he was 17.
After losing his mother at an early age and abandoned by his father, Kalkan was raised by his grandmother. The Initiative, which composed by victims' families of those exposed to the cruelty of Feb. 28 and FETO judiciary, paid a visit to the elderly grandmother.
The painful grandmother, who is longing for her grandson to come home, residing in a half-ruined house on the ground of the memories she has with her grandson. The grandmother also suffers from drug addicts and thieves constantly harass her.
The grandmother expresses her wishes that she wants to spend her last days with her grandson before the death, calling on the authorities to hear the voice of oppressed people.
"The justice expectations of oppressed people have been postponed," said Musab Arasan, spokesman for the Initiative, during the visit to elderly grandmother along with a delegation from Yusufi Association.
Expressing that they continue to visit victim's families and listen to their grievances, Arasan continued, "He [Ramazan Kalkan] is in prison for 24 years. We are here at the house of his grandmother, who raised him, looked after him for years. They have no one else. It is heartbreaking to see the house where she resides. Justice is never brought forward in the days when the amnesty debates are on the agenda. The justice expectations of oppressed people have been postponed and ignored. We try to be their voice."
Saying that her grandson Ramazan is in prions for 24 years and that she raised him alone because his mother had passed away in his early age and his father abandoned him, the painful grandmother Fatma Kalkan expressed her suffers as follows, "I raised Ramadan. They were 3 siblings. I looked after them. We have experienced much boredom. Ramazan was teaching Qur'an in the mosque. They detained him. Now I have no one. I am all lonely here. I want my grandson to be released. I want nothing else. I ask Erdoğan to release my grandson."
"There is amnesty for drug dealers, thieves, but there is no amnesty for us. For example, thieves many times broke my door. Why do they [authorities] release the thieves but why they do not release my grandson? Did they arrest him because he was performing salaah [praying]? They arrested him when he was 17. He wasn’t even older. They put years on him in the prison. I would go to the house of Erdoğan if I knew where his house is. Did my grandson murder someone? No. They put him in the prison; because he was praying 5 times a day [was trying to live like a Muslim]. Of course, we will pray because we are not non-Muslim, we are Muslims," said the grandmother.
