The Sumer Mosque, located in the Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır, was hit by lightning at about 19.30 pm on Monday.

The upper part of the minaret, which was used as a mobile phone base station from the two minarets of the mosque, hit by the lightning.

While there was no casualties or injuries, the surrounding citizens suffered short-term panic as the lightning struck.

Firefighters and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene.

The security measures taken in the region prevented citizens from approaching the mosque.
