Macron appoints Tehran ambassador as Syria envoy
French President Emmanuel Macron appointed France's Tehran Ambassador Francois Senemaud as special representative in Syria.
French President Macron has announced that he has appointed France's ambassador to Iran Francois Senemaud as the exclusive representative on Syria.
At the age of 61, Senemaud was also the head of the French intelligence foreign intelligence service and served in various administrations of the French Foreign Office. France closed its embassy in Syria in 2012, without formally breaking off diplomatic relations.
