Morales defends his right to be involved in politics
Bolivia's former President Evo Morales on Tuesday said he had the right to do politics, even if he will not be a presidential candidate in upcoming elections in his country.
Speaking at the press conference in Argentina's Buenos Aires, Morales said: "What I want are free, sound and transparent elections. I am not going to be a candidate but I have a right to be involved in politics. As long as I am alive, I will remain politically active in service to, and as a sacrifice for, the poorest."
After weeks of opposition protests against his re-election for a fourth term, Morales resigned and first flew to Mexico and then arrived in Argentina, which both offered him refuge.
In order to eliminate Morales from the race, lawmakers passed a bill that bars candidates who have already served two presidential terms.
