More than half a million people migrated to Turkey in 2018
According to international migration statistics, 577,457 people migrated to Turkey in 2018.
While 23.6 percent of the foreign population who came to Turkey were Iraqi citizens, most of them migrated people have preferred to live in Istanbul.
Turkstat announced its international migration statistics for 2018. Accordingly, 577,457 people emigrated from abroad to Turkey.
In 2018, the number of immigrants increased by 23.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 577 thousand 457 people.
While 52.7% of this population were males, 47.3% were females. When the immigrant population was examined by citizenship, 110 thousand 567 persons were Turkish Republic (TR) citizens and 466 thousand 890 persons were foreign nationals.
The number of emigrants increased by 27.7% compared to the previous year and reached to 323 thousand 918 people in 2018.
While 53.3% of this population were males, 46.7% were females. When the emigrant population was examined by citizenship, 136 thousand 740 persons were TR citizens and 187 thousand 178 persons were foreign nationals.
The most immigrated population group was the 25-29 age group
In 2018, it was seen that 11.9% of the immigrant population were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by the 20-24 age group with 11.5% and 30-34 age group with 10.3%, respectively.
When the age distribution of the emigrant population was analyzed, it was seen that 15.7% of them were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 20-24 and 30-34 age groups with 13.2%.
The province with the highest number of immigrants was İstanbul
When the immigrant population in 2018 were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest immigrant population with 201 thousand 957 people.
İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 71 thousand 337 people, Antalya with 36 thousand 674 people, Bursa with 22 thousand 660 people and İzmir with 14 thousand 671 people, respectively.
When the emigrants were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest immigrant population with 113 thousand 430 people.
İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 28 thousand 410 people, Antalya with 18 thousand 408 people, Gümüşhane with 16 thousand 789 people and İzmir with 13 thousand 468 people, respectively.
23.6% of foreign immigrants were comprised of Iraqi citizens
Iraqi citizens took first place in the foreign immigrant population in 2018 with 23.6%. This group was followed by citizens of Afghanistan with 9.6%, Syria with 8.4%, Turkmenistan with 7.5% and Iran with 6.8%, respectively.
Iraqi citizens once again took the first place in the foreign emigrant population with 20.6%. This group was followed by citizens of Azerbaijan with 7.4%, Uzbekistan with 7%, Turkmenistan with 5.4% and Iran with 4.9%, respectively.
