Father of Islamic prisoner Hasan Gündüz passed away due to heart attack, while Hasan Gündüz, who was not allowed to attend the condolence on the first day, was brought in handcuffs on the last day of the condolence.

Islamic prisoner [Yusufi] Hasan Gündüz demanded prison administration to attend the first-day condolence of his father, who died of a heart attack on Monday morning but was able to attend the condolence of his father in handcuffs, accompanied by the gendarmerie, on the last day of the condolence due to security reasons.

Yusufi Hasan Gündüz's father passed away last Monday in longing for his son and was buried in Yeniköy Cemetery, Diyarbakır, by his relatives. Hasan Gündüz was locked behind bars since 2000 for his Islamic services.

Requests from the first day that Hasan Gündüz is able to attend his father's condolences were postponed on security grounds.

Providing information regarding the issue, Haci Gündüz, older brother of Yusufi Hasan Gündüz, said:

"We have given our petition from the first moment of condolence so that my brother Hasan can attend our father's condolences. But they didn't bring Hasan that day for security reasons. We reported it to the lawyer. As a result of the lawyer's meeting with the prosecutor's office, they postponed Hasan's condolences until the last day.

They brought him in at 09: 30, handcuffed, under the control of law enforcement, when he was supposed to arrive at 09: 00 on the last day. Delaying his arrival is not acceptable as the funeral owner must be present at the funeral for 3 days and even though it has its place in the law."

Speaking the reason why his brother Hasan has been jailed, Haci Gündüz continued: "Hasan's only crime was to teach the Qur'an. Since he was captured in the mosque in 2000 while he was teaching al-Qur' an, they have tortured both us and Hasan by torturing him, persecuting, and transferring him from province to province."

Older brother Haci Gündüz said his father suffered longing for years for his child. "My late father was 77. He applied to perform the Hajj 12 years ago. He was on the list this year. He passed away 10 days after completing his pilgrimage [Hajj].

Saying that one of the hardest situations for his deceased father was the pain of his child, Haci Gündüz said, "His 2 children were in prison. One was released after 25 years in prison, and the second, Hasan, has been in prison for 19 years."

"My father buried that longing and sorrow in the grave with him as a result of his heart attack," he said.
