President Erdoğan meets with Putin
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in the South African city of Johannesburg to attend the BRICS Summit, met with President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation.
Also present during the meeting at Four Seasons Hotel were Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Treasury and Finance Berat Albayrak, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Minister of Trade Ruhsar Pekcan and Head of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Hakan Fidan.
President Erdoğan and President Putin of Russia made a greeting speech prior to the meeting.
Significant momentum achieved in Turkiye-Russia relations
Expressing his pleasure to meet with President Putin of Russia on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, President Erdoğan stated that a significant momentum has been achieved in the relations between Turkiye and Russia in all areas including the political, military, economic, cultural and trade fields.
Recalling the 100 billion dollars goal in Turkiye-Russia bilateral trade, President Erdoğan said: "I am confident that we will achieve this goal given the current state of affairs. This is so because we have the conviction to do so. There are very favorable developments in tourism. I assume that some 6 million tourists will visit Turkiye this year. Nevertheless, some really get jealous of the solidarity between our two countries."
President Putin of Russia, for his part, expressed his pleasure to meet with President Erdoğan. Stating that the two countries will continue cooperation for the solution of various crises, President Putin of Russia pointed to the 40.5 percent rise the annual bilateral trade volume saw last year.
