The Russian energy company Gazprom announced to terminates natural gas supply contracts with Ukraine.

After the International Court of Arbitration ruled that the Russian energy company Gazprom did not meet its obligations to Ukraine for natural gas delivery, the Russian energy company Gazprom stopped natural gas shipments to Ukraine.

In recent years, there has been a serious political crisis between the Kiev and Moscow governments, this time the natural gas crisis began.

The lawsuit filed by the Ukrainian natural gas company Naftogaz at the International Court of Arbitration in central Sweden's Stockholm on the grounds that the Russian energy company Gazprom has not fulfilled its obligations regarding the natural gas delivery concluded on Wednesday.

The court decided that the Russians would pay 2.56 billion dollars in compensation to the Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz.

In response to this decision, Gazprom cut the flow of natural gas to Ukraine and returned the pre-payment made by Ukraine for shipment.

The Ukrainian government declared all schools to be closed temporarily, including nursery schools, primary schools, and universities, to be energy saving. Besides, the use of oil instead of natural gas was given to power plants and Ukraine bought natural gas from Poland. Naftogaz reported that it would go to reconcile with Gazprom during this period.

Russia has stopped gas delivery to Ukraine before. This conflict on natural gas is seen as part of the political tension that exists between Russia and Ukraine in other areas. (ILKHA)
