Saudi regime seeks death penalty for Salman Alodah without court
Dr. Abdullah Alaoudh, son of prisoned scholar Salman Alodah, said through twitter account that the Saudi regime sought the death penalty for his father in a trial held in secret place without taking him to the court.
The Saudi regime seeks the death penalty for Salman Alodah, an Islamic scholar who has been jailed since September 10, 2017, without appearing at the court said his son.
"Today a secret meeting was held in the trial of my father Sheikh Salman Alodah, which he did not attend this time," Dr. Abdullah said.
Stating that the attorney-general confirmed his previous request for the death of his father on charges related to his tweet, Dr. Abdullah Alaoudh said: "I ask God to release him and all arbitrarily detained prisoners."
The lawyers of the case declared that they are concerned about the execution of the Saudi scholar and that there was no indication that Alodah's file would be solved and he will be released.
Lawyers published a statement in Paris and declared that they saw Alaoudh prosecuted by the judicial persecution policy, which is an attack by the Saudi regime on freedom of expression and thought.
In an article published in the New York Times on February 13, Dr. Abdullah Alaoudh said the Saudi authorities seek to execute his father and called on the international public to stand up against this regime that deceived the world by claiming to be a "reformist".
Expressing that his father twitted "May Allah mend their hearts for the best of their peoples," on Sept. 10, 2017, after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt imposed a blockade on Qatar, Dr. Abdullah went on to say:
"A few hours after his tweet, a team from the Saudi security services came to our house in Riyadh, searched the house, confiscated some laptops and took my father away."
He is being held in solitary confinement in Dhahban prison in Jidda. He was chained and handcuffed for months inside his cell, deprived of sleep and medical help and repeatedly interrogated throughout the day and night.
His deteriorating health - high blood pressure and cholesterol that he developed in prison - was ignored until he had to be hospitalized. Until the trial, about a year after his arrest, he was denied access to lawyers.
"On Sept. 4, a specialized criminal court in Riyadh convened off-camera to consider the numerous charges against my father: stirring public discord and inciting people against the ruler, calling for change in government and supporting Arab revolutions by focusing on arbitrary detention and freedom of speech, possessing banned books and describing the Saudi government as a tyranny. The kingdom’s attorney general sought the death penalty for him," he wrote.
On Feb. 3, the Saudi government postponed Salman Alodah's trial for the third time without explanation and continues to keep him in prison.
His family has been incessantly harassed since his arrest; 17 members of my family are barred from travel, including children; their house and personal library were searched without a warrant; his brother uncle was arrested after tweeting about the incident, and assets of Dr. Abdullah have been frozen without justification.
