In Egypt, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal of 39 defendants in the case known as "Egyptian soldiers" and approved the death penalty imposed on 13 people by the Criminal Court in 2017.
Giza Criminal Court sentenced 13 people to death, 17 people to life imprisonment, 2 people 15 years in prison, and 5 people to 7 years in prison in December 2017, for setting up an ambush against security officials and targeting police headquarters.
The indictment claimed that the defendants had organized 46 actions aimed at security forces and public facilities and that dozens of security guards were killed and wounded.
The "Egyptian soldiers" organization, which was established in 2013, started to attack members of the army on the Sinai Peninsula and was included in the terrorist list by the USA in 2015.
In Egypt, between March 2015 and February 2019, the death penalty was imposed on 42 people, most of whom were members of the Muslim Brotherhood organization.
