The number of people who lost their lives in the collapsed building in Kartal rose to 16. Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu announced that rescue teams recovered the body of a 1.5-year-old Eylül Dervişoğlu from the rubble, bringing the death toll to 16.
"We lost two more people after our last statement," said Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who had a statement at the site of the collapsed building on early hours of Saturday.
"The figures we gave were that 14 of our citizens lost their lives and 14 of our citizens were rescued as wounded. After that time, bodies of 2 more citizens, Şevval Yıldız and 1.5-year old Eylül Dervişoğlu were recovered from the wreckage," he said.
Friends and relatives wait near the collapsed building for news of their missing loved ones as emergency teams are working around the clock by sniffer dogs to reach possible survivors.
