19 irregular migrants rescued off southern Turkey

19 irregular migrants have been rescued in the Mediterranean off the Anamur district of Turkey’s southern Mersin province, Turkish Coast Guard Command said in a statement on Wednesday.

The statement said that a fast fiber boat including some irregular migrants had been detected by CG boat conducting patrol duty in Anamur district of Mersin.

According to the statement, the migrant group who noticed that they were detected by CG boat crashed into the rocks in the area and stopped while they were doing maneuvers for the purpose of escaping from CG boat.

The statement added that after detecting that some of the irregular migrants got injured due to the effect of the crash, 1 CG helicopter and 1 additional CG boat had been dispatched to the scene immediately.

As a result of the rescue operations, a total of 19 irregular migrants were taken from the rocks in company with 112 Emergency Service staff and transferred to the coast.
