19 irregular migrants rescued off Turkey's Aegean coast

19 irregular migrants were rescued from a boat off the coast of the Dikili district of Turkey’s northwestern İzmir province, Turkish Coast Guard Command announced in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the boat carrying 19 irregular migrants was pushed back to Turkish territorial waters by Greek Coast Guard forces.

Turkey has traditionally been a major transit port for irregular immigrants to enter European countries.

According to the official reports, 113,865 irregular migrants held across the country in 2020.
