2 killed, 6 missing as flash floods hit northeastern Turkey

2 people were killed, 6 others went missing early Thursday in floods caused by heavy rains in Rize province in the Black Sea region of Turkey.

The floods severely affected the Güneysu district of Rize province. Many houses were evacuated due to flood hazards in the districts.

Search and rescue crews from the Turkish Red Crescent, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and gendarme units were mobilized to find the missing people.

At the behest of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Murat Kurum, Minister of Interior, Süleyman Soylu, and Minister of Transport and infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, moved to the region to supervise search and rescue operations.
