48 kg of heroin seized in eastern Turkey

Turkish security forces have seized 48 kg of heroin in the Başkale district of Turkey’s eastern Van province.

According to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, 48 kilograms of heroin were seized in a field in the Atlılar neighborhood of Başkale.

The operation is ongoing to nab the suspects, the officials said.

Turkey maintains strict laws against the use, possession or trafficking of illegal drugs. If convicted under these offences, one could receive a heavy fine or a prison sentence of 4 to 24 years.
