51 irregular migrants held in western Turkey

51 irregular migrants were nabbed in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale while trying to make their way to the Greek island of Lesbos on Wednesday.

The migrants, who include 13 males, 13 females as well as 25 children, will be deported when legal processing completes.

Turkey has traditionally been a major transit port for illegal immigrants to enter the European Union.

According to the official reports, 454,662 irregular migrants held across the country in 2019.
