61 new coronavirus cases reported in Kurdistan

61 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Kurdistan Region, bringing the number of cases to 910 in the country, the Health Ministry announced on Thursday.

So far 12,422 people have been quarantined, the Ministry said, adding that 1058 people are still in quarantine at the moment.

3,559 tests have been carried out to detect coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours. Of those, 61 people tested positive for the virus.

So far, 82,971 tests have been carried out to detect infections in the country

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior announced a six-day curfew after a record-breaking infections rate was recorded in a single day on Sunday.

The lockdown decree has gone into effect from the evening of June 1 until June 6 midnight, the Ministry said.

The Ministry urged citizens to abide by isolation rules in order to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The first case of COVID-19 infection in Iraqi Kurdistan was confirmed on the 1 March.

Since March 1, when the first case of COVID-19 infection in Kurdistan was confirmed, the country has reported 910 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 16 deaths and 441 recoveries.
