A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hits Fiji Islands Region

An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck west of Tonga at 11:28 am (GMT +13) on Monday.

The epicenter of the quake was about 200 km west-southwest of Haveluloto at a depth of 234 km, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.

No tsunami alert has been declared.
