According to a statement made by the US Geological Survey Institution, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake has been reported in New Caledonia on Wednesday.
New Caledonia, which is located in the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean, a 6.6 magnitude aftershock has struck off New Caledonia, following the first magnitude 7.6 earthquake southeast of the Loyalty Islands.
"Tsunami waves reaching 1 to 3 meters above the tide level are possible along some coasts of New Caledonia and Vanuatu," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
Evacuations were ordered after hazardous waves up to three meters tall were expected to rise following the 7.6 magnitude quake on Wednesday.
