A total of 200 irregular migrants rescued over the past week, Turkish Coast Guard says

200 irregular migrants have been rescued off the coast of western Turkey over the past week, Turkish Coast Guard Command said in a statement on Saturday.

Between May 21 and May 27, a total of 200 migrants were rescued in 10 incidents, according to the statement.

They were rescued off the coast of western Turkey in the Aegean Sea.

Turkey has traditionally been a major transit port for irregular immigrants to enter European countries.

According to the official reports, 454,662 irregular migrants held across the country in 2019.
