Altun: Turkey has handled the coronavirus crisis in an exemplary matter

Thanks to the decisive leadership of our President Erdogan from day one, Turkey has handled the coronavirus crisis in an exemplary matter, said Fahrettin Altun, head of media and communications in the Turkish presidency, on Twitter on Wednesday.

He said that while the world has come under immense pressure by this unprecedented threat, decades-long healthcare investments are paying off.

“Our government has taken care of our citizens by mobilizing our healthcare system, supporting our healthcare workers, conducting large numbers of tests, aggressively pushing for R&D on possible cures and a vaccine, and making all coronavirus treatments free of charge,” he stated.

“Our President also announced a 100 billion TL economic package to support our financial system. Our Finance Ministry has taken any necessary measure to support our small and medium businesses while providing stability in the financial markets.”

Reminding that Turkey has gone over and beyond in its efforts to lead a global diplomatic push and help countries in need around the world, he went on to say: “We have consistently been leading the world in humanitarian and development help and we retained this status during coronavirus times. We have instituted many strong measures including the weekend curfews to ensure social distancing is implemented fully. We have seen a slowdown in the pace of new cases, patients in ICUs as well as number of deaths. However, we cannot relax measures to allow another spike.”

"Turkey will get through this crisis much better than most countries"

“We are truly lucky to have our President Erdogan lead us through these tumultuous times. His determined leadership is the key for our government’s robust and successful management of this crisis. Our people have largely followed our government’s guidance thanks to his messages,” he said and added: “Turkey will get through this crisis much better than most countries under our President Erdogan’s leadership. Thanks to the generosity and common sense of our people, we will not only overcome this challenge but lead the world in global public health response.”
