Approval of arms sales to Turkiye

The German government approved the sale of 4 million 400 thousand euros weapons and defense products to Turkiye.

The German government announced that it has approved the export of weapons and defense products to Turkiye after the Afrin operation has almost concluded. German first-channel ARD said the sale of 4 million 400 thousand euros includes defense equipment such as bullets.

After the emergence that Turkiye used German Leopard 2 tanks in Afrin operation that launched on January 20, a debate took place in the German public on arms exports to Turkiye. The government had publicly announced that the sale of arms has been suspended and that subsequent decisions have left a new government on the pressures coming from the public.

Merkel's new government in Germany has established about two weeks ago. Chancellor Merkel announced in the government program that Turkiye's operation on Afrin is "unacceptable" shortly after the establishment of the new government.
