In remarks to al-Aqsa satellite channel on Friday, the Member of Hamas’s political bureau Husam Badran said that the factions agreed to form the election court by consensus and neutralize any other legal entity, including the constitutional court.
“We want the election court to be formed by consensus of judges who are known for their experience, competence and personality and cannot change their views under pressure from any party,” the Hamas official stressed.
“Soon, we will have agreed on the names of these judges. Four of them will be from Gaza, four others from the West Bank and one from Jerusalem, and the president will issue a decree in this regard,” he explained.
He pointed to the presence of a big problem in the West Bank regarding the file of freedoms and stressed the need for ensuring that the security apparatuses in the West Bank and Gaza do not take sides in the elections.
The Hamas official asserted that the Fatah Movement enjoys complete freedom in Gaza unlike Hamas in the West Bank.
“Hamas is following and monitoring every detail regarding the elections and will not condone any attempt to tamper with it,” he said.
