Big fire in Erbil burns 1200 shops to ground

The fire in Erbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan, burned 1200 shops to ground.

The fire, which broke out at major Lenge Bazaar on Erbil's Ghazi Mohammed reportedly burned 1200 shops to ashes.

The fire took place at the Lenge Market, the largest 'Second Hand Market "in Erbil, which is located on the Ghazi Mohammed Street at 03.30. Upon notification of the incident, a large number of firefighters were referred to the scene.

While the fire spread to a large part of the market, after about 8 hours of work, the flames could be controlled with the intervention of the helicopter from the air.

Some Iraqi citizens also claimed that the fire brigade came about 6 hours after the fire.

Erbil District Governorate of Nabaz Abulhamid, "There are about 2,400 shops in the second-hand market. The fire broke out at the night 03.30. With the help of firefighters and citizens, after about 10 hours of work, the fire was taken under control."

While the cause of the fire cannot be determined yet, cooling works are continuing in the region.
