Bird flu detected in Turkiye's Şanlıurfa

A neighborhood was put in quarantine in the town of Viranşehir in Sanliurfa, southeast of Turkiye, due to avian influenza case. The ministry officials began to work on the culling of poultry.

Bird flu cases were seen in a farmer's chicken in Demirci Neighborhood of Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa. While the neighborhood was put in quarantine, culling of poultry was started with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry officials.

Chicken farm manager Halil Müjdeci, speaking to ILKHA, said that he received about 300 chickens from a person named M.T. from Diyarbakır last month.

Adding that he brought chickens to his own farm and chicken began to have a runny nose in a short time said Müjdeci. "So I called the person I purchase the chickens. He asked me to apply antibiotic treatment to the chickens. Meanwhile, I continued to sell my own chickens."

"I saw that the chickens on my farm were also suffering after I had given antibiotics to chickens. I've notified the authorities. So the authorities came and quarantined the neighborhood and started to work on the culling of poultry," he added.

The farm owner also concerns about the health of his family due to bird flu.
