Brazil’s death toll from coronavirus nears 60,000

Brazil has reported 1,271 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 59,656.

The number of confirmed cases has reached 1,408,485, an increase of 37,997 cases in the last 24 hours.

Brazil is the country with the second-highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in the world.

Brazil also ranks second in the world in terms of total cases, behind the United States.

While at least 8,318 patients are being treated in intensive care units, more than 790,040 patients suffering from coronavirus have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Sao Paulo, the country’s most-populated state, continues to be the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The state has so far reported more than 275,145 confirmed coronavirus cases, with at least 14,398 deaths.

Brazilian Government has so far delivered more than 115 million PPE to the states to be used in the fight against coronavirus pandemic, the country’s health ministry said.
