Children's deaths doubled in Syria: UNICEF

According to the report of the UN Children's Fund, in the Syrian war in 2017, killing the highest ever the number of children – 50 percent more than in 2016.

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced that children in Syria face violence more than ever in the seven years after the beginning of the civil war and that in 2017, killing children has doubled as compared to previous years.

The United Nations announced that children in Syria, at the eighth year of the war, were at a higher risk than ever before. "The conflict in Syria continued unabated through 2017, killing the highest ever number of children – 50 percent more than in 2016," said in the report. It has also reported that the death of children constitutes approximately one-five of total civilian deaths.

UNICEF's report did not include data on deaths in 2018. UNICEF also added to the report that children who were disabled during the fighting were facing the risk of being neglected. According to UNICEF, about 3,300,000 children were exposed to war damage, and in just 2017 dozens of school were targeted in the conflicts.
