The death toll is rising in Italy, which has the highest number deaths due to coronavirus in Europe, while the country is struggling to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
285 people who tested positive for coronavirus have lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 27,967, according to the Health Ministry.
While 1,694 patients are being treated in intensive care unit, 75,945 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.
1,979,217 tests have been conducted for coronavirus in the country.
As of March 19, Italy became the country with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in the world, but on 11 April it was overtaken by the United States.
The country has now the third-highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world after Spain and the US.
On the other hand, pandemic measures, which have been imposed since March 10 in the country, are scheduled to be partially and gradually eased from May 4.
